Sara Michielsen is a teaching assistant and PhD student at the Department of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). She obtained a BA in Human Geography at Durham University and a MA in Global Studies at the University of Leipzig and Vienna where she delved deeper into the subjects of colonial discourses and symbolic constructions in the context of the Cold War. With her PhD, Sara will aim to explore the functions of (colonial) collective memories in conflict journalism.
