ECHO Co-Director Kevin Smets presented his book "Film: Een Geschiedenis" during a "Talkie" at Film Fest Gent Belgium’s largest international film festival. The session, moderated by Patrick Duynslaegher, involved filmmaker Nina de Vroome & Academy Award-nominee Stijn Coninx.
The book guides the reader through more than 130 years of history, from the first magical 'moving photos' to the latest developments in digital film and special effects. The book advances an open and inclusive view of film history, presenting Non-Western film and discussing themes such as discrimination, sexism and colonialism. In addition, twelve experts, ranging from animation legend Raoul Servais to director Dorothée van den Berghe and actress, screenwriter and director Hilde Van Mieghem, testify about their personal key moment in film history.
