Johana Kotišová & Valériane Mistaen – FWO Postdoctoral Fellowship
We are delighted to share the news that ECHO researchers, Dr. Johana Kotišová and Dr. Valériane Mistiaen, have both been awarded a three-year postdoctoral fellowship by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO).
Dr. Johana Kotišová will work on the project called The Affective Epistemology of Dislocated Journalists and studies the interplay between emotions and knowledge among journalists who had to leave their homes in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The project of Dr. Valériane Mistiaen is titled Discourse of 'state-induced return' in international institutional speech: how to kindly give the boot to people on the move and deals with how unnoticed grammatical features (in this case the prefix “re-“) carry ideology. Previously, Dr. Mistaen was a PhD fellow at ECHO and defended her PhD only a month earlier in April 2023. Her doctoral research focused on the denomination of people on the move in Belgian French-speaking and Dutch-speaking media.
