On Thursday the 19th of October, Jiyan Faris successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled: “Media Capture. The Political Reality of Media Undergoing a Transitional Democracy: The Case of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq after 2003”. Obtaining a joint-PhD with The University of Antwerp and VUB. The defence was held in the company of supervisor Prof. dr. Pieter Maeseele (University of Antwerp) and Prof. dr. Kevin Smets (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) along with members of the jury, including: Prof. dr. Elisabetta Costa (University of Antwerp), Prof. dr. Fatima El Issawi (University of Essex), Prof. dr. Stijn Joye (University of Ghent), Prof. dr. Johana Kotišová (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and chair of the jury Prof. dr. Steve Paulussen (University of Antwerp).
