Joke Bauwens

Joke Bauwens (PhD Social Sciences – Communication Studies,2003) is senior lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She teaches bachelor and master courses on media and communication theories, media sociology, textual and content analysis. She is a senior research fellow of the research group ECHO: Media, Culture & Politics Research Group. Working at the intersection of social theory, cultural theory and philosophy, the research of professor Bauwens concentrates on the sociocultural role of media and communication. Scholarly engaged with socially significant issues, she has extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research on perceptions, representation, sensemaking, young people, environmental communication, media, culture, and democracy.
