PhD fellow Briar Dickey visited the University of Oslo at the end of June to attend a PhD Workshop on researching extremism online, organised jointly by the Global Network on Extremism and Technology: GNET and CREX: Center for Research on Extremism. The workshop invited 10 successful PhD applicants to attend a set of lectures by experts Dr. Maura Conway, Dr. Eviane Leidig, Dr. Tim Squirrel, Dr. Fazeelat Duran and Stevie Voogt, focusing on methodological approaches, digital safety, researcher wellbeing and research ethics. The workshop included a poignant visit to the island of Utøya, the site of the 2011 Norway attacks in which a total of 77 people were killed by far-right terrorist Anders Breivik.
