Biography
Briar Dickey is a doctoral researcher with interests in reactionary politics, gender, online culture and popular culture. His previous work has explored the gender and sexuality politics of the far-right, reactionary transphobic discourses, and misinformation on social media. His PhD research investigates how far-right gender politics relates to and is informed by engagement with narrative-driven video games. Specifically, it explores how a relationship to pop culture, nerdish subculture and audiovisual fiction inform both far-right ideology and constructions of gender.
Briar is also a member of DESIRE and the postgraduate board member of the European Sociological Association’s research network ‘Political Sociology’.
