Yazan Badran
Biography
Dr. Yazan Badran is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Communication Studies (SCOM) and an FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellow at the Echo and imec-SMIT research centers at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. He was a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and obtained a PhD in Media and Communication Studies (VUB, 2021). He currently teaches on topics including the political economy of journalism, and media, culture and globalisation theories, mainly in the MSc. in Journalism and Media in Europe.
He has been a visiting scholar at different institutions including Kadir Has University (Istanbul, Turkey), and Centre d'Etudes Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT–Tunis, Tunisia). His research focuses on the nascent media spheres in the Arab World that emerged following the 2011 uprisings. He has a MSc in Communication Studies from the VUB (2015), and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from the Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan (2013), and a Japanese language certificate from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (2007).
