Sofie Vermoesen is a teaching assistant at the department of Communication Studies and PhD candidate at ECHO. She is an alumna of the MSc Communication Studies - Media & Culture (2022) at the VUB and has a BA in Media Management and Technology (2018). Professionally, she has experience in the fields of digital media, communication, and media/tv production. Her research focus lies on the intersection of Film Studies, Visual Culture, Cultural Studies, and addressing overall power imbalances. Her master's thesis is called "A tale that time forgot: neocolonial narratives in jungle-adventure film". Currently, Sofie is developing her PhD reseach, focusing on the negotiation of the Screen Tourism-heritage-community nexus.
