Katia Segers
Biography
Katia Segers is a professor at the department of Media Studies of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Between 2002 and 2014 she was director of CEMESO, now she is Honorary director of ECHO. Her research and publications focus on children, media and culture, media literacy and on media and cultural policy matters. She is a member of the Belgian team of EU Kids Online, a multi-national thematic network that aims to stimulate and coordinate investigation into the use of new media by children, funded by the Safer Internet Program of the European Commission. On May 25, 2014 she was elected as Member of the Flemish Parliament and the Belgian Senate. Before, she was the president of the Flemish Regulator for the Media, president of the Advisory Board to the Minister of Cultural Policy, vice-president of the Commission Cultural Treaty between Flanders and the Netherlands, and a member of the board of the Flemish Opera House and Ballet and the Flemish Expert Commission for Governmental Communication of the Flemish Parliament.
